The campus network for many buildings in south campus stopped working at about 7:45 AM Tuesday morning, 1/9/2018. At approximately 9:50 AM, Network Operations was able to reestablish the network. All systems are currently functional
From network operations:
"We determined that an interface card on core router 1 (CDF 1) was not forwarding traffic properly (forwarding some traffic but not all - e.g., wired network traffic failing while wireless was working). We disabled those ports and let traffic fail over to core router 2 (CDF2). This was an instance of a "soft failure" on the hardware that kept the ports in service even though there was a problem (so we had to force the traffic over to the redundant path). We will get a replacement card heated up and schedule a card swap."
